This serviced 1965 Citizen Auto Dater SM23 Ref. AUSS 1401-Y represents mid-1960s Japanese horology, embodying the executive elegance and mechanical ingenuity of Citizen's pioneering automatic calendar lineup. It is powered by the legendary 23-jewel Caliber SM automatic movement, part of the revered Citizen "Jet" family featuring an innovative circular geared ring rotor, Parashock protection, and separate day-date calendar architecture. Following a full mechanical service, it operates with supreme precision, optimal automatic winding efficiency, and dependable performance.
The hallmark of this timepiece is its professionally restored rich purple sunburst dial, displaying an alluring gradient vignette finish that captures light with sharp clarity across its radiant surface. The distinctive executive layout is appointed with cursive Citizen Auto Dater typography, the classic applied "SM" insignia above 6 o'clock, polished circular bead indices paired with faceted baton hour markers at the cardinal positions, razor-sharp hands, a framed day window prominently positioned beneath 12 o'clock, and a framed date window at 3 o'clock.
The 37mm stainless steel case preserves its sharp factory geometry, slim polished bezel, and gracefully curved lug contours that sit comfortably and commandingly on the wrist. While the dial has been expertly refinished in a striking royal purple hue, the watch head retains its original factory movement, hands, crystal, case, and crown. It comes paired with a premium textured black leather strap.
An exceptional 1965 Citizen Auto Dater reference combining iconic Jet geared-rotor automatic horology, the signature 12 o'clock day complication, classic mid-century case proportions, and a captivating royal purple aesthetic.
